glass fusing and kiln forming courses

fusing glass taster days

Look out for dates to be announced for 2021

£125 per person

Only 4 people per day.

THE VIRUS

Courses are now limited to four places until the current Covid situation is less . . . stressful for all! My studios are spacious, but not so huge that I can offer 6 square feet of personal space at all times for four people and myself unless we all learn to line dance first. The big clean room bench is 2.5 x 1.2 Meters, so plenty of room for four intelligent people. And me!

It has always been my working practise to instruct my students to wear safety goggles when working with machinery and face masks when working with glass powders and silicas, so I always have face masks available if you forget yours. I personally wear a visor as oxygen deprivation gives me a blinding headache and is extremely injurious to my health.

My usual working practises also apply to cleaning my workspace. Glasswork is a very grubby business; if I didn’t wash down and clean up I would be knee deep in glass dust and shards. And as for clean hands? Hah, just ask any of my previous students if they recognise this . . .

“Glass MUST be spotlessly clean before it fires. So, keep your hands clean!”

I look forward to working with creative, free thinking people!

An absolute novice! I spent two days with Laura and found it to be a fantastic experience. Her knowledge and enthusiasm was exhilerating and if you are considering this – just go for it. I would rate this course as one of the best I have ever attended. Huge thanks x

I was given this 2 day course as a present and it has turned out to be the best I’ve ever had. I have a small kiln and have tried glass fusing without much success. I have worked as a glazier and lead light maker for the last 40 years but she taught me things about glass I had not known before. Laura was a very good teacher and a good host. I would recommend her to anyone, even those who have never worked glass before.

We spent 3 brilliant days learning how to cut, grind, colour and fuse glass and made glass pendants and birds for a chandelier. Laura is an excellent teacher, very hands off allowing you to experiment but with advice at key points to ensure you get the result you are looking for. I can’t wait for September to do my next project.

Nicola Hunter

Laura is great! We spent 3 days with her at her studio. We turned up with no experience of glass fusing or in fact any glass work at all. Laura showed us the ropes and helped us to create all the components for a chandelier. It was great fun and Laura was very patient and knowledgeable. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her. Thanks Laura!

Great 3 days spent with Laura; Laura is a fab friendly, informative, helpful and encouraging tutor. A incredibly well stored workshop or an Aladdin’s Cave may be a better description. I learned the basics of glass fusing, made some great pieces of fused glass, had lots interesting conversations, a few laughs and Laura’s enthusiasm and guidance has ensured I will definitely take up this craft! Many thanks to a talented lady.

Carole Pollock

Two days spent with Laura gave this complete novice an understanding of what is involved in glass fusion work. Perhaps more importantly, it gave me an appreciation of just how complex this art form is, and can be – especially when you look as some of Laura’s own creations. She is a thorough, observant and patient teacher and I would recommend her course to anyone interested in working with glass. You will learn, and create, a lot!

Marilyn Rydstrom

My husband and I spent the day with Laura in her studio whilst on our honeymoon. It was a fantastic experience and we made a wonderful piece which I’m very proud of and also a great memory.

Alona Bettinson

Having had no experience of glass art, I found Laura’s course very well worth the money. She introduces you to a number of techniques and certainly opens your eyes to the possibilities of design and the mixing of colours. So much so that you finish the introductory course with a sense of achievement and the desire to explore the art further. More than that, Laura is great company and a very capable tutor.

Ken

A fantastic course! Laura covers a whole variety of different techniques and allows plenty of time to try things out. As a teacher, she offers support when needed, plenty of encouragement to try new things out, and suggestions to make things even better. Whether a novice with glass, or someone with experience, you will come away having learnt loads, but also with lots of hints and tips to give your pieces a more professional look. And you begin to get an understanding of the amount of work, time and skill that goes into making the sorts of beautiful pieces Laura makes! Overall I felt I learnt masses, in a way that I can remember and apply back home, and had a huge amount of fun along the way! glass. You will learn, and create, a lot!

I’ve just spent three days on Laura’s glass art course. I absolutely loved it and can’t wait to go again. Laura is an inspiring teacher with endless patience and a great sense of humour making it a thoroughly enjoyable experience. I highly recommend this course with Laura. You must check out her work…it is incredibly beautiful.

I have been on a 3 day glass making course with Laura Hart and must admit it was probably one of the best courses I have ever taken – Laura encourages and helps so effortlessly which puts you straight away at ease – To make your own glass ware is so exciting (I didn’t realise glass was so versatile) So glad I took this class and will be going back to make Christmas presents

Check out Laura’s website and see what beautiful things she makes too.
